This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys tackling complex engineering challenges, modernising mature applications, and helping teams raise their technical standards without disrupting delivery. You'll play a key role in shaping how software is built, tested, released, and maintained while mentoring developers and driving sustainable improvements across the Android platform. What You'll Be Doing Take technical ownership of a production Android application Drive architectural and engineering improvements across the platform Reduce technical debt through practical, incremental modernization Improve build, testing, release, and deployment processes Lead technical initiatives without relying on large-scale rewrites Support and mentor developers through pairing, coaching, and code reviews Promote modern engineering practices that enable frequent, reliable releases Collaborate closely with product, backend, and platform teams Help build a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence Your Technical Background Strong expertise in: Kotlin Jetpack Compose Traditional Android Views Coroutines & Flow Modern Android Architecture Dependency Injection Gradle build configuration and optimization Android lifecycle management and platform APIs Unit, Integration, and UI Testing Proven experience with: Google Play Console and release management Mobile CI/CD pipelines Automated build, test, and quality validation Crash analysis and application performance optimization Feature flags and progressive delivery approaches Versioning, rollback, hotfix, and release strategies Incremental refactoring of legacy Android codebases Trunk-based development and continuous integration The Type of Engineer We're Looking For You are someone who: ✅ Makes pragmatic architectural decisions and clearly explains trade-offs ✅ Knows when technical debt should be fixed now, later, or intentionally left alone ✅ Can challenge existing technical decisions constructively ✅ Leads through influence rather than authority ✅ Helps developers improve rather than taking ownership away from them ✅ Gives thoughtful and actionable code-review feedback ✅ Balances engineering excellence with business realities ✅ Prefers steady progress over perfection ✅ Creates an environment where issues are raised early and solved collaboratively Nice to Have Experience with any of the following is highly valued: Feature-flag platforms and progressive delivery tooling Fastlane or similar release automation tooling Mobile observability and monitoring platforms Modularization of large Android applications API design and backend collaboration Security and privacy best practices Accessibility standards and implementation IoT, connected devices, or energy-related products Driving technical transformation without formal management responsibilities Why Apply?
